Space Survey Opens March 28 - April 22, 2016

The annual space survey will be conducted March 28, 2016 to April 22, 2016. To prepare for the survey, respondents and approvers may attend one of two trainings offered at the following times:
•  10:30am-12:00pm Tuesday, March 29 in Chestnut Hall 120
  •  3:30-5:00pm Wednesday, March 30 in Chestnut Hall 120

 Space Management System FM:Interact To Go Offline
February 23, 2016
In preparation for the PeopleSoft 9.2 upgrade and the new chart of accounts, as well as a needed upgrade, the UNT space management system FM:Interact will be offline for campus use from Thursday, Feb. 25-Monday, Feb. 29. It is anticipated that the system will be back up and available on Tuesday, March 1 at 8 a.m. There will be no access to campus floor plans and associated data during that time period. If an urgent need arises, please contact the UNT Office of Space Management.

Student Success Town Hall

OSMP Receives Success Story Award
October 21, 2015
The UNT Office of Space Management and Planning recently won a Success Story award from software company FM: Systems for optimizing a tool that improves space management for universities. The department was also featured at the National Society for College and University Planning Conference held in Chicago in July. Read more at

Many Offices Relocate in November
October 21, 2015
Personnel and offices are being relocated throughout the month of November, including the Adaptive Lab, UNT System Human Resources, AVP for University Information Services, Decision Support, Technology Transfer and Economic Development, and others.

University Union Scheduling
October 6, 2015
The new University Union will be able to move into and begin functioning in some portions of the building by November 11, 2015. With this information, UNT will begin scheduling space in the new University Union for events occurring after January 4, 2016. Available space will include two multi-function ballrooms, a warm-up room with wood floors and mirrors for dancers, videoconferencing rooms, meeting spaces with views of downtown Denton and the UNT campus, and a tiered-seating room for meetings or group training sessions. Spaces can accommodate groups from 10-2,000 people. Visit the University Union Scheduling Office website for details. 

UNT International is Moving

UNT International and IELI begin their move to Marquis Hall today. The move will affect their main office, IELI, International Center, International Student/Scholar Services, Sponsored Students, and Recruitment over the next two weeks. Check out their move schedule here.

2015 Space Survey
January 21, 2015
The Office of Space Management and Planning will open the mandatory, annual space survey February 9, 2015 through March 6, 2015. The survey will be held earlier this year in preparation for the scheduled THECB audit in June 2015.

Renovation Projects
January 8, 2015
Construction and improvement work should be completed in January on the Union Circle parking garage, West Hall, Willis Library and the Welch Street Complex.

UNT Holiday Closure
December 17, 2014
The Office of Space Management and Planning will close December 22-23, 2014 and the University of North Texas will close December 24, 2014 -January 2, 2015. The Office of Space Management and Planning will resume normal operations on Monday, January 5, 2015. Happy Holidays from OSMP!

Many Offices Relocate
October 29, 2014
More than 30 offices have moved or are moving to various locations to accommodate construction and to foster better collaboration. Eight offices, included Human Resources, were moved from Marquis Hall so that the building could be converted into space for UNT-International. The moves included several in the Hurley Administration Building, not for renovation, but rather to create better efficiency and collaboration among the administrative offices.

Remodeled "Bruceteria" offers 188 more seats
April 15, 2014
UNT Bruce Hall Cafeteria concluded construction on its 188 seat expansion and update. This expansion created a new main entry into Bruce Hall and provided a separate entrance from outside to provide flexibility for the new dining expansion. In addition, the sprinkling system was installed in the dining area and the public restrooms were renovated.

Space Inventory Survey Announced
February 18, 2014
The mandatory annual Space Inventory Survey is announced. All public higher education institutions in the State must submit an annual facility inventory report to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to fulfill provisions of the Higher Education Coordinating Act of 1965 as amended (codified as Subtitle B, Chapter 61, Texas Education Code, 1971). The amount, type, and use of physical space are components used to determine each institution’s funding. The Office of Space Management and Planning is responsible for submitting this report. Conducting an annual Space Survey is the tool used to ensure accuracy in UNT’s reporting.

New Year, New Projects
January 10, 2014
As the University welcomes a new year and new semester, construction projects continue across campus. The University Union remains under construction and is scheduled to open Fall 2015. Construction Obstruction Reports are available on the Facilities and Office of Disability Accommodation websites, which detail alternative routes due to construction zones.

Winter Break
December 18, 2013
The University of North Texas will be closed for Winter Break Monday, December 23, 2013 through Wednesday, January 1, 2014. Business operations will resume Thursday, January 2, 2014 and classes will begin Monday, January 13, 2014. Construction projects will continue throughout the break.

Auditorium Gets a Makeover
November 12, 2013
The Auditorium building, built in 1924, was renovated this past summer to upgrade its mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems and to make the auditorium a dual-purpose space. The $5.9 million renovation included updates such as new restrooms, lighting, carpet, paint and acoustic banners. The auditorium is the largest classroom on campus and used by many professors who previously taught in the University Union’s Lyceum, which is now closed for renovations as part of the Union Master Plan.

Darlene Callahan, Director of the Office of Space Management Planning, presents an update to the University of North Texas Staff Senate on current and future university construction projects, renovations, property acquisitions, reorganizations, and department changes addressing the Denton campus Master Plan update, widening of I-35E, and other space management and planning concerns.

Scoular Hall Demolition Begins
Sept. 16, 2013

In preparation for the new University Union, construction crews are set to begin demolition of Scoular Hall on September 18th, 2013. Demolition is expected to last through October 4th, 2013.

Union Construction Begins
August 19, 2013
Construction fences are currently being set up around the entire University Union construction site, which may affect walking patterns on campus. Also, vehicle traffic patterns are changing on Union Circle to accommodate construction traffic and equipment.

Classroom Seating Reduction

An InHouse announcement is made by the Office of Space Management and Planning regarding the reduction of 1,200 classroom seats across campus to meet current fire and life safety seating regulations.
